Stewart has been a partner in the outfitting business for over 30 years and hunting in this area for 40+ years.
Growing up on a cattle ranch in southwest Wyoming cultivated an appreciation and wonder of the “great outdoors” at an early age. To this day, I am still in awe of the beauties of Mother Nature.
My interest in the outfitting business began as a mere boy in the preteen years. I sought every opportunity to be with my dad in the mountains when he was guiding. I also spent time with my uncle, Sharon Dayton, who was in the outfitting business and was kind enough to let me tag along on occasion in his camp. I also had the opportunity to be involved in the motion picture entertainment industry in the early 1970s, and to play the role of Billy Coleman on “Where the Red Fern Grows” as well as a few other Family Feature Films. However, I realized pretty quickly that I did not want to live the Hollywood life and I wanted to live the simpler life in my hometown of Cokeville, Wyoming.
Incidentally, this same uncle hired me to guide for him a couple years in my mid-twenties and a few years later he presented me with the opportunity of becoming his business partner. Wow, what a thrill! So I moved my then-little family of five to Cokeville, Wyoming and we began our partnership around 1986-87 under the name “Magic Mountains Outfitters.”
For the past nearly 30 years I have been able to carry out so many outdoor adventures with some good people sitting around our campfires, enjoying the starlit skies of Wyoming. I am lucky enough to have a very supportive and loving wife who understands my absence during the summer and fall months and six amazing kids who also share in this love for the outdoors.
Landon has been a partner in this outfitting business for 6 years and has hunted in this area for over 20 years.
I grew up hearing the stories of my dad’s outfitting adventures and at the young age of four my dad took me up for my first pack trip. I have always had a love for the outdoors and hunting and began helping my Uncle Sharon and dad Stewart in my early teen years.
Though I loved guiding, when the opportunity came up to become a partner in the business I jumped at the chance. I attended Utah State University for a few years in business and I have been able to continue my love for the outdoors and God’s beautiful animals through building and running my own Angus Cattle Ranch. I am lucky enough to have a supportive and beautiful wife and two kids who love to help me with the ranch and outfitting business.
Chad has been a partner in our outfitting business for 2 years and has been coming up to hunt in this area for more than 15 years.
I was born and raised in Wyoming and have been married to my wife, Laurie, for 32 years and counting. We have 4 beautiful children, all of whom are married, and we have 3 grandsons.
Some of my fondest memories of growing up on a ranch include trailing the cows and sheep 15 miles to the summer pasture located in the Uinta mountains. There is nothing like riding a horse into what I would consider God’s country. To this date, I still get a chance to enjoy the splendor of the mountains when I go up to camp. I have been hunting most of my life and now have my family going out on these awesome trips.
For the past 15 years I have had the opportunity to travel into camp with Stewart and his family and friends. In January 2018, I became one of the owners of Crooked Sky Outfitters, and now have the chance to rub shoulders with some of the best people on this planet. I look forward to seeing you at camp and making some once in a lifetime experiences.
